Making do with the few available Artist support platforms in Jamaica may be daunting but there are possibilities which may arise from utilizing the existing opportunities. There are submissions based exhibitions at some of the local galleries on a yearly basis for those who wish to highlight their work locally. Western Artist Andrew Duhaney participated in an Open Call for Submissions at the Montego Bay Cultural Centre’s National Gallery West’s ” Due West” Exhibition late 2018.
The Open Call for submissions, was an effort to prompt the emerging talents from western Jamaica to submit their pieces and use it as a launching pad into the industry. Our licensed visitor’s Attraction with mixed patronage of both local and International guests from all over the world provided an opportunity for local talent to be highlighted. Hundreds of guests from the young to more senior, art enthusiasts or just plain curious will have an opportunity to observe and in their own way promote the emerging talent.
We encourage more Western Artists to continue to seek out these opportunities and to keep abreast of the happenings at MBCC as the submissions based exhibition will become a permanent fixture in our programming.
We also want to encourage the public to help us in promoting our talent by supporting/visiting these exhibitions.
