National Gallery West is pleased to present its second staging of our annual submission based exhibition, Due West, which is scheduled to open on January 19, 2020.  Similarly to the original concept, which was created in 2018, Due West is part of an initiative aimed at discovering and showcasing the work of artists who live in or are from Western Jamaica.

An open call was sent out in September 2019 to the public, inviting all artists, amateur and professional, residing or originally from western Jamaica, to submit their works. After the adjudication, 14 artists, namely, Trisannia Watson, Indie Allen, Esther Chin, David Pinto, Penelope Stewart, Nathan Robb, Andrea Jadusingh, Kate Moyston, Andrew Duhaney, Deon Simone, Greg Bailey, Naomi Redway, Krystall Ball and Ivor Walters are represented by a mixture of paintings, photography, audio visual art, fiber art, mixed media and sculpture were selected.  Due West 2020 and onwards will continue to be a platform within the Jamaican contemporary art scene for many upcoming and established artists to be featured as well as  recognized by a local and international audience that frequently sojourn the gallery.

There’s also a People’s Choice Award, a cash prize of JA$50,000.00 that will be given to the “Best of Show” winner whose artwork along with an article about them,  will be featured on all our social media handles as well as in the local press.  In an effort to continue the movement in supporting our western art community, we encourage you to visit National Gallery West to view Due West and vote!

The opening reception for Due West 2020 will be held on January 19, 2020 @ 2pm sharp, here at National Gallery West and all are invited to attend.  Follow the coordinates, 19.01.2020. @ 2pm at the Montego Bay Cultural Centre in Sam Sharpe Square. Come and enjoy live entertainment and refreshments while exploring the contemporary art from western Jamaican artists. Here, you may also get the opportunity to meet the creators behind the art and be inspired.

Voting begins on January 19 – April 10, 2020 and you can only vote by viewing the exhibition. The winner will be announced April 11, 2020.  We look forward to seeing you all.
